Manchester United’s Alan Smith is reported to be in talks with Newcastle United today over a possible £6million move.
Reports suggest that Smith has snubbed a move to Middlesbrough and would be interested in moving to St James Park despite the fact he’d have Michael Owen, Obafemi Martins, Mark Viduka, Shola Ameobi, Albert Luque and Andy Carroll to compete with for a place in Sam Allardyce’s side

Obafemi Martins has pledged his future to Newcastle United.
The Nigerian striker has been linked with a move to Arsenal and rumours increased when it became public knowledge that the 22-year-old has a £13million get-out clause in his contract at St James Park.
“I will keep my mouth shut. I am not going anywhere, I am still a Newcastle player,” he told the Magpies’ website.

Sam Allardyce has admitted that Kieron Dyer could leave Newcastle United because of “family problems”.
Allardyce will only let the England international leave the club if the right offer is made. Dyer has been linked with moves to Tottenham Hotspur, West Ham United and Manchester City in the last couple of weeks.

West Ham United are set to step up their interest in Newcastle United’s Kieron Dyer, according to The Times.
Hammers boss Alan Curbishley is keen to recruit Dyer after new signing Julien Faubert damaged his Achilles tendon, ruling him out for around six months.

Former Charlton Athletic loanee Zheng Zhi has claimed that Newcastle United and Birmingham City are interested in bringing him back to the Premiership in another loan deal.
The 26-year-old is currently playing his football for Shandong Luneng, but told reporters in Kuala Lumpur last week that he is interested in a move back to England.

Newcastle United have confirmed that recent signing Joey Barton will miss the start of the Premiership season.
Barton damaged his foot in the draw at Carlisle United on Saturday and will be sidelined for six weeks after scans confirmed a partial fracture of the fifth metatarsal in his left foot.

Michael Owen will miss Newcastle United’s friendly against Carlisle United as a precautionary measure.
Owen is expected to be out of action for around ten days after picking up a thigh injury in training, and although the injury is not serious, Newcastle will not risk the England striker with the Premiership season set to start in under a month.
